Audiences watch a short play for 50 minutes about the life of a struggling single-mother, named Megan K, and then after a short break they are invited to imagine different outcomes for all the characters.

The actors then re-perform parts of the story according to the new narratives decided by the audience. It is a real chance for people to become socially engaged with the issues surrounding austerity in a fun and exciting way. The play will be performed at Storey’s Field Centre, Cambridge on Friday, November 2.

In the story, Megan K. juggles low-paid work, ever-deeper debt, two children and a fancy new red handbag. Audiences bear witness to her struggle as she moves between her home, her work and the Job Centre, navigating difficult relationships with her sister, her boss and her work coach.

Menagerie Theatre Company is the leading independent new writing theatre company in the East of England. Based in Cambridge, the company has been creating theatre for over 18 years and has a regional, national and international reputation for the development of first-class new writing for the stage.
