Cameras rolled this week as the final day of filming in Cambridge for KGB spy thriller, Red Joan was held.
Kingsman star Sophie Cookson and a crew led by director Sir Trevor Nunn have been in the city filming scenes for Red Joan, a new film based on the life of Melita Norwood, the KGB’s longest-serving British spy.
A statement released by the college said: “Scenes were shot in Old Hall, the Pfeiffer arch, Newnham’s gardens and inside our Kennedy building. The film is expected to be released in autumn 2018.”
Red Joan stars Oscar-winner Dame Judi Dench and Sophie Cookson, 27, best known as Roxy Morton in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and its 2017 follow-up, Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
The story follows Dame Judi as Joan, a retired physicist whose tranquil life is interrupted in 1999 by a visit from MI5. Cookson plays Joan in her younger days as a student at Newnham who falls in love with a committed communist and, later, finds her loyalty to her country tested while employed in the UK’s secret nuclear programme.
