10-minute Covid-19 antibody test in stock at Great Shelford-based Antibodies.com
An antibody test for Covid-19 that delivers results in 10 minutes is now available for use by healthcare professionals from Great Shelford-based Antibodies.com.
More than 50 million of the tests are in stock. It has been approved for professional use in the UK and Europe, has received its CE mark and is registered with the MHRA as an in vitro medical device.
The test detects both IgG and IgM antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in human whole blood, serum, or plasma.
Clinical trials with more 1,500 people showed that the test has a clinical sensitivity of 98.81 per cent and a clinical specificity of 98.02 per cent, meaning it is suitable for emergency use requirements of the pandemic.
The tests can be administered by professionals such as doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare workers.
Antibodies.com, which is based in Station Court, said the rapid test allows for faster screening of employees for Covid-19 infections as well as helping to verify the effectiveness of vaccines in development.
Director Dr Stewart Newlove said: “Fast, reliable, and easy-to-use tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies are a game-changer. We can use them to help revolutionise our understanding of how the virus is spreading across the population and provide critical insights into the effectiveness of vaccines and the level of immunity that they provide.
“We are delighted to be able to offer these tests to healthcare professionals across Europe as we move into the next stage of this pandemic.”
Studies showed the test - named the Covid-19 Rapid Test Kit IgG + IgM (Colloidal Gold) (A122152) - did not cross react with antibodies of other viruses such as influenza or other common coronaviruses.
A pack of 40 tests is priced at £245.
