A new home delivery service is set to start: Click It Local is working with Milton-based bicycle courier Zedify to get the service up and running from Tuesday April 14 – with delivery costs of just £3.

The service has already signed up 30 local businesses and independents to the platform, says Click It Local founder and Sutton resident Steven Koch.

“Initially we’re launching as a website which functions like an app,” Steven told the Cambridge Independent. “At the moment it’s a sign-up website but customers will be able to order starting next Tuesday (April 14). Around 30 independent retailers and suppliers have already signed up and are setting up their profiles. There’s quite a variety, including a bakery, fashion and cosmetics.

“The app will follow next month but customers can start ordering, there’s 30 stores already signed up, with about 20 who will have their profiles set up by next week.”

Small businesses already on board include The Cambridge Cheese Company, Grain Culture, The Cambridge Distillery, plus Small and Green.

Steven said: “Their challenge is that they may be super-busy, such as food stores, but they’re not familiar with the logistics of delivery. On the other side there are retailers that have had to close because they’re not essential services – and this helps both of them to set up services for their customers.”

Steven runs a London-based digital retail agency headquartered in London, so he’s familiar with how an ecommerce trading platform works. He started talking to Zedify two weeks ago about setting up the service, which will operate in and around Cambridge – the delivery ring goes from Girton, to Histon, Milton, Fen Ditton, Cherry Hinton, Trumpington and Coton – and in the centre of Ely.

The cost is a flat rate of £3 if you order from one retailer, but you can order from multiple retailers on the site, and each extra retailer adds £1 to the cost of the delivery.

“If you go to the wesbite,” says Steve, “you can shop by store or by product, with any variation of products from multiple retailers - a bit like Amazon - and you pay once at the end of the transaction. The delivery charge _ £3 for the delivbery and £1 for each additional retailer you buy from - goes to Zedify. ”

“We’re proud to be partnering with Click It Local to offer same day delivery to our community in Cambridge,” said Tom Scruby, operations manager at Zedify UK. “We want to help support local businesses and offer a simple, reliable and sustainable delivery service directly to customer’s doors, using our fleet of zero-emission vehicles.

“Much like many other apps, the customer will enter their postcode and see what services are available to them.”

“Both Zedify and ourselves want to make it as affordable as possible for everyone,” adds Steven.

Orders before 2pm will be delivered the same day, after 2pm the following morning.
