El Cafecito: Latin American coffee in the heart of the Cambridgeshire countryside

El Cafecito was created as a roastery in 2015 and opened as a coffee shop at Deans Farm in Fowlmere late last year.

The business is owned by Colombian Carlos Campos, his wife Angelica Gonzalez, and Chris Davies – who also operates a branch outside the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford.

Carlos, whose daughter Antonia also works at El Cafecito, said: “We had very little expectations because where we are is in the middle of the countryside – it’s a small warehouse – so we didn’t know what to expect.

“We opened on December 12 and it has been a success since the day we opened, I think because we cover a necessity that was not covered at the time. We have to cater for the cyclists, we have to cater for the runners, and also for the community in Foxton, Newton and Fowlmere.

“I think, more than anything else, we are part of the community – that’s how we see ourselves. We have provided a service for the community and we employ a lot of the teenagers in the area. I think it works well.”
