Judging panel meets for Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards 2024




Judging sessions have been held for the Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards 2024.

A panel met over two days at the Bradfield Centre on Cambridge Science Park last week to pore over the nominations.

There were a record number of entries to consider this year, meaning the panel had a tough challenge on its hands. The panel comprised:

- Cambridge Independent editor Paul Brackley, who chaired the panel;
- Mark Watson, general manager of the Bradfield Centre, which is managed by Mantle Space, sponsor of the Software Company of the Year category;
- Stephanie Martlew, COO of St John’s Innovation Centre, which is sponsoring Medtech Company of the Year;
- Nathan Taylor-Allkins, partner at Woodfines Solicitors, which is sponsoring Cleantech Company of the Year;
- Amritjot Jethwa, head of commercial IP contracts for Appleyard Lees, which is sponsoring AI Company of the Year; and
- Mike Scialom, business correspondent at the Cambridge Independent.

Paul said: “I am grateful to the panel for giving their time and expertise to help us judge what proved to be an incredible set of entries, and to the Bradfield Centre for hosting us. It was fantastic to see the calibre of nominees, which gave us some exceptionally challenging decisions to make.”

Others assisting with the extensive judging process for the awards this year include Jane Hutchins, director of Cambridge Science Park, sponsor of the STEM Initiative of the Year award, David Broach, director of Allia Future Business Centres, sponsor of the Tech for Good Award, AstraZeneca, which is sponsoring Researcher of the Year, Faye Holland, director of cofinitive, which is sponsoring The One to Watch award, and Mario and Jean Prelorenzo, of JDJ Creative, sponsor of the In Search of Wonder Lifetime Achievement Award.

The shortlist and details of the awards ceremony in May will be revealed in the Cambridge Independent very soon.
