Our celebration of talent returns: The Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards 2025 are launched
Entry officially opens today for the 2025 Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards.
The leading celebration of science and technology sectors in the Cambridge region, the awards are now in their eighth year and have developed a reputation for highlighting exceptional achievements and talent.
Fifteen categories are available to enter for free online here.
And the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Peter Kyle, has given his backing to the awards and encouraged organisations and individuals in the region to enter.
He said: “Awards and moments to pause and celebrate achievement are really important, so the work the Cambridge Independent is doing on this I completely endorse and I hope this year the Science and Technology Awards get more attention than ever before.
“There are people and organisations out there who are sometimes hidden from view, who are thinking the impossible, who are creating the unimaginable, and they are bringing the future into reach. I want to celebrate those from the rooftops, so the work the Cambridge Independent is doing is incredibly important and I hope all of your readers will take pride in the spotlight you shine on scientific excellence.
“I hope that it inspires this new generation to believe that they can be winners into the future too.”
Categories cover the full span of companies, ranging from the One to Watch award for those in their earliest stages, and Start-up of the Year, for businesses under three years old, through to Technology Company of the Year and Life Science Company of the Year for those organisations making big waves in their industries.
There are categories for biotech, medtech, AI, cleantech and tech for good, while individuals will be celebrated in two awards: Researcher of the Year and CEO of the Year.
We will also be celebrating work to help the next generation of talent, through the STEM Initiative of the Year award, and highlighting organisations that go the extra mile for their employees, the community and the environment, through the Employer of the Year category.
Meanwhile, the Award for Innovation is open to those across any science and technology sector who are disrupting their field with entrepreneurial spirit.
And there will be a Lifetime Achievement Award once again, celebrating an individual whose career is an inspiration to others.
Editor Paul Brackley said: “We are delighted to open entry to the Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards 2025
“The awards are always a highlight in the calendar and bring together some of the finest minds in the Cambridge region and some of the most incredible achievements you will find anywhere in the country.
“We are very thankful for the support of our sponsors, a number of whom have backed these awards from their outset.
“Thanks to their help, we are able to offer free entry to the awards and two free tickets to every finalist, meaning that there are no barriers to entry.
“We are looking forward to seeing all your entries.”
The awards themselves will take place on 15 May, 2025, at Hinxton Hall Conference Centre on the Wellcome Genome Campus.
They will begin with a networking reception with canapes and drinks, offering a fantastic opportunity to meet up with contacts new and established in the stunning space outside the Francis Crick Auditorium, where the winners will be revealed.
Networking will continue after the awards.
While finalists will be offered two free tickets each, a limited number of tickets will go on sale so that others can come along to the awards too.
We welcome a new sponsor this year – Howden Insurance, which is supporting CEO of the Year.
And among the returning sponsors is Woodfines Solicitors, which is supporting Cleantech Company of the Year.
Neil Gibbs, Woodfines managing partner, said: “We’re thrilled to once again sponsor the Cambridge Independent Science and Technology Awards, a partnership we’ve been proud of since their inception.
“At Woodfines, we’re passionate about supporting businesses at every stage of their journey, and as a business, we strive to embrace sustainability in all that we do.
