RIBA East 2025 shortlist is an architectural showcase for Cambridge

Twenty-three projects, including a sustainability-driven retrofit of a typical 1970s detached house, almshouses catering to over-55s and a state-of-the-art research facility, have been shortlisted for the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) East Awards 2025.

The projects shortlisted in the Cambridge region include AstraZeneca’s The Discovery Centre (DISC) by Herzog & de Meuron/BDP; The Entopia Building Architype, by Feilden and Mawson and Eve Waldron Design; TTP Campus by Sheppard Robson; the University of Cambridge West Hub by Jestico + Whiles; and Young’s Court Development at Emmanuel College, Cambridge by Stanton Williams.

Also on the list are Dovehouse Court Almshouses, ‘Folded House’ by Westerdahl, Knights Park by Pollard Thomas Edwards and Alison Brooks Architects, Mirror Pod Extension by Mart Barrass Architect, and Young’s Court Development at Emmanuel College by Stanton Williams.

All projects shortlisted for RIBA Awards will be visited by a regional jury, and the winning projects will be announced in the spring.

The winners will then be considered for several RIBA Special Awards, including the RIBA Sustainability Award and RIBA Building of the Year, before being considered for a highly coveted RIBA National Award, which will be announced in the summer.

Matt Blakeley, regional director for RIBA Central, said: “The East region continues to deliver as one of the shining lights of architectural excellence in the UK, with this year’s shortlist demonstrating a wealth of outstanding projects.

“From mass housing to community buildings, commercial to educational spaces, the diversity and innovation on display is truly remarkable.

“The sheer volume and quality of the projects that now come forward in the region highlight not only the talented architectural community, but the vision and collaboration of clients, stakeholders and contractors who make these projects possible.”

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize – the UK’s best new building – will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning projects and announced in September.

The RIBA Awards have been running since 1966. No matter the shape, size, budget or location, RIBA Award winning schemes set the standard for great architecture all across the country. RIBA Awards are for buildings in the UK by RIBA Chartered Architects and RIBA International Fellows.

The winner will be announced in October.
