Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre’s annual conference is at CJBS
The Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre’s ninth annual conference, titled ‘Shaping Success’, will take place on Saturday (November 25) at Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS).
The event coincides with the publication of a new report that forms the centrepiece of the conference.
The report, titled Inclusion In Investment Management, calls for a series of key steps to improve diversity including mentoring, early-years recruitment schemes and making performance and compensation schemes more objective.
“People from lower socio-economic backgrounds were rated higher in job performance, had greater psychological resilience (particularly females) and higher task-based persistence – thus showing the benefits of greater diversity in the asset management sector,” the study says. “Men are rated as more creative, feel a higher sense of status, and are more likely to be recognised for awards even if they are not assessed to have higher performance."
“This report draws connections on diversity, equity and inclusion that have been little studied in past research,” says report co-author Jenny Chu, associate professor in accounting and outgoing academic director of the Wo+Men’s Leadership Centre at CJBS.
“Whereas past studies have often focused on the link between gender and specific outcomes such as financial results, this study develops a fresh framework to examine the interaction between employee diversity, workplace experience and performance outcomes.”
The schedule for the day includes keynote speakers, panel discussions and a communications workshop led by leaders and CJBS academics.
This year, they welcome as keynotes alumnae Marie von Bethmann, associate partner at McKinsey & Company, and Rina Einy, founder and owner of Culthread London.
“The 9th annual Wo+Men’s Leadership Conference is focused on ‘Shaping Success’, so we’re really excited to explore that theme in various ways at this year’s event,” says Prof Chu.
“The report by Cambridge Judge Business School in collaboration with Invesco and the Investment Association draws connections on diversity, equity and inclusion that have been little studied in past research and finds clear benefits of workplace diversity in the asset management sector.”
