Cambridge schoolchildren dressed to impress for World Book Day 2024

Characters from the pages of children’s favourite books were brought vividly to life on World Book Day (Thursday, 7 March) at Milton Road Primary School.

Headteacher Rae Snape said: “Both children and staff love to dress up for the day and, as you can see from the photographs, the day really put a smile on everyone’s face!

“Our particular focus this year was ‘Everyone has a story to tell’, so we were delighted that so many parents and volunteers within our community were able to come into school to share their tales with us, enacting a very important oral tradition.”

Meanwhile, at The Cavendish School in Impington, the county’s first state-maintained special free school provision for autistic children, the children enjoyed a visit from local artist and author, Roland Burt.

Students were encouraged to think about their own experiences, identity, and how they relate to the world around them through group workshops. They used his book, A Child’s Mind of Yesterday, as a starting point.
