Kimbolton School: Celebrating 425 years of excellence… and a new bus route
Kimbolton School, one of the region’s leading independent schools, is marking its 425th anniversary with a number of new initiatives, including a new bus route from Cambridge launching in September 2025.
With a seamless all-through education from ages 4 to 18, Kimbolton is more than just a school – it is a community where pupils grow, learn, and thrive together. Set within a stunning 110-acre campus, including the historic Kimbolton Castle, the school offers outstanding academic and co-curricular opportunities, ensuring every pupil is challenged, supported, and inspired.
With a growing number of families from Cambridge and surrounding areas choosing Kimbolton, the introduction of a dedicated school bus makes accessing a Kimbolton education easier than ever.
New bus route for Cambridge families
From September 2025, a Kimbolton School bus service will run from Cambridge (Madingley Road), Hardwick, Cambourne, and Eltisley, providing a convenient transport option for pupils – from Reception-aged pupils up, to widen access for families seeking the Kimbolton education.
One school. One family
Kimbolton School provides a continuous and cohesive education from ages 4 to 18, ensuring that pupils progress smoothly through each stage of their learning. From the early years in the Prep School, where a nurturing environment fosters curiosity and confidence, pupils benefit from small class sizes, specialist teaching in subjects such as languages, music, and sport, and an extensive outdoor learning programme that encourages exploration and teamwork.
As they move into the Senior School, strong foundations are built through a broad and engaging curriculum that challenges pupils academically while balancing this with extensive co-curricular opportunities. Every stage is designed to foster curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
At Kimbolton, pupils are encouraged to pursue their individual passions, whether through music, drama, sport, or outdoor pursuits. The school offers an exceptional equestrian programme, competitive sailing opportunities, and a thriving outdoor education programme, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and adventure training.
Kimbolton’s commitment to sporting excellence is evident in its professional coaching staff, which includes former England cricketer Alex Tudor and former English footballer Chris Hope. With state-of-the-art facilities and expert coaching, pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills and compete at the highest levels.
Our Sixth Form is based within the castle and pupils are supported by specialist teaching, leadership opportunities, and personalised university preparation, with many going on to top UK and international universities.
With a focus on developing well-rounded, resilient, and ambitious individuals, Kimbolton ensures that every pupil leaves academically successful and fully prepared for life beyond school.
Flexible boarding options for modern families
Kimbolton also offers a range of boarding options, including flexi, weekly, and full boarding, catering to the diverse needs of modern families. With a close-knit and supportive boarding community, pupils enjoy structured independence, strong pastoral care, and a wealth of academic and co-curricular opportunities.
Boarding is an increasingly popular choice for both UK and international families, and with the school’s small boarding community, pupils benefit from a family atmosphere alongside the independence and responsibility that come with boarding life.
