Monkfield Park Primary School in Cambourne celebrates another positive Ofsted report

Monkfield Park Primary School is thrilled after receiving another positive Ofsted report.

The primary, in Great Cambourne, maintained its Good rating, with an inspector praising its “well-behaved” children, “well-trained” staff and its broad curriculum.

The inspector said: “Overwhelmingly, pupils are happy to be at Monkfield Park. They are kept safe in school and work positively with adults.

“Pupils get on with each other very well, and any disputes between them are quickly settled. Most behave very well in lessons and around the school.

“They benefit from being supported by teachers and teaching assistants, who are kind and who work very well together. Pupils learn in well-organised classrooms. They can play in attractive outdoor spaces, which are also used imaginatively for learning.

“The school sets high expectations for pupils’ achievement. Pupils quickly learn to read, do particularly well in mathematics, and their writing is improving.”

The inspector praised the “good manners and thoughtfulness” of pupils and said they show “great enthusiasm for tasks that require them to think hard and apply their knowledge”.

The wide range of before- and after-school activities, including sports and musical theatre, was noted in the report.

And teachers were praised for applying the principles of phonics consistently and imaginatively to help children read.

The inspector added: “Teachers have a good command of knowledge across different subjects, presenting it confidently and clearly. Teachers and teaching assistants work closely together, as teams, to make sure that activities are adapted in a way that fully includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”

The report also noted: “The sense of unity and teamwork among staff is a distinctive feature of the school.”

To further improve, the inspector advised detailed planning beyond long-term objectives, particularly to aid the link between early years and the main school, and urged the school to ensure tasks were demanding to drive up standards and help the pupils develop important wider skills.

The inspector also confirmed that the school’s safeguarding arrangements were “effective”.

Headteacher Annie Howell said: “We are so thrilled with the positive feedback we received from the Ofsted inspector.

“There is much to celebrate and I am delighted that the inspector was able to reflect the caring and aspirational nature of Monkfield Park in the report.

“Our continuing Good judgement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every member of the Monkfield Park family: our staff, parents, governors, volunteers and, of course, our wonderful children.”
