Profr Omoteso joins from the University of Derby, where he served as pro vice-chancellor and dean of the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences for six years.

At Derby, he helped develop an inclusive culture that earned the university a number of charter-marks, improved EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) statistics, and enhanced satisfaction among students and staff in the areas of inclusion and belonging.

His academic background is in accounting and governance and he continues to maintain his professorial profile through research and scholarship.

Professor Omoteso, who took up his post on 2 January, said: "I am delighted to be joining Anglia Ruskin University. ARU is renowned across the sector for its commitment to inclusion and I relish the opportunity to contribute to its growing profile and reputation.

“I believe I’m joining a team of visionary people who are committed to a set of core values that resonate with my personal philosophies. It is a rare privilege to take on this role, and I’m greatly looking forward to continuing working with colleagues across the institution to deliver excellence and success for our students and our community.”

Before his time in Derby, Prof Omoteso was the head of the School of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Coventry University, where he led strategic initiatives that drove change, growth and enhanced its reputation.

His academic career began in 2001 at Lagos State University in Nigeria, after six years of professional experience in accounting and auditing roles in both the public and private sectors. He held various academic positions between 2003 and 2013 at De Montfort University, Leicester, including principal lecturer and director of postgraduate programmes in accounting. He served on the Council of the Chartered Association of Business Schools from 2019 to 2024.

Prof Omoteso has completed several senior leadership courses in the UK, Canada, and the US, including programmes at Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He replaces Prof Aletta Norval, who has retired from the position after joining ARU in 2018.
