Trumpington Community College celebrates continued success

Students and staff at Trumpington Community College are celebrating an excellent start to the new academic year after a summer which saw students achieve a stellar set of GCSE results.

Following last year's GCSE results success, the school’s results in August cement the strides it has made over the past year as well as its growing reputation as an excellent school.

With almost four-fifths (79 per cent) of students achieving a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, and 67 per cent of students achieving the higher grade 5 or above in the two subjects, the school is rightly proud of its students’ achievements. Most impressively, around one-third of students (32 per cent) achieved the very top grades of 7 or above in English and Maths, setting them up well for their future academic life.

These strong sets of results have allowed students to take up places at their Sixth Forms and colleges of choice across Cambridge where they will begin the next stage of their education with confidence.

As the College said goodbye to its students who received GCSE results this summer, it soon prepared to welcome a new cohort of Year 7s who began their studies at the school in September. These students have quickly settled in and become part of the school’s inclusive community, which celebrates the uniqueness and potential of each and every student.

Part of United Learning, a national group of schools with a local cluster in Cambridge, the school is committed to delivering an ‘Education with Character’. This ensures that students have access to both a high-quality academic curriculum and an enriching extracurricular programme. Embedded into the academic curriculum is a variety of exciting opportunities to develop subject knowledge as well as confidence and team-work skills, such as through Group-wide music, sport and art events.

Head of school Jessica Pearce said: “I am thrilled with our students’ well-deserved GCSE success this summer and, as the new Head of School, I am looking forward to working closely with students, staff and parents to continue the upwards trajectory Trumpington is on. As we settle into the new term, it has been brilliant to see our young people approach their learning with such positivity, enthusiasm and commitment, creating a really wonderful atmosphere around the school.”

“Since the school opened in 2016, we have worked hard to create a culture of high academic standards and ambition which allows students to find joy in their learning and take pride in their education.

“With each year that goes by, I am so pleased that as a school we are growing in confidence and setting the bar high for what our students can achieve. This summer’s fantastic GCSE results are proof of that – despite the challenges of the pandemic, students showed extraordinary resilience to attain such strong results which will set them up well for whichever path they choose to take next.

Executive principal Matt Oughton added: “At Trumpington, we see ourselves as not just an academic institution but also as a community. It is therefore always a delight to welcome new students to the school and watch as they become proud members of our supportive community. I’m so glad our Year 7s are enjoying school life and I know that everyone, from teachers to older students, has given them a warm welcome and ensured that they have settled in quickly and easily.”

“In recent years, the College’s reputation as a really good school, both in terms of the academic education and wider opportunities on offer to students, has grown. Part of what makes us special is our focus on creating a positive culture and celebrating the individuality of all our students, allowing them to make strong progress in a supportive learning environment.

“For families who are interested in joining our school community, we are looking forward to hosting an Open Evening on the 4th of October and to having the opportunity to meet with students and parents.”
