Bird & Blend tea shop opens in Cambridge with more than 100 brews
British tea company Bird & Blend has has opened its new store in Cambridge.
The shop at 8-9 Green Street stocks more than 100 different teas, ranging from classic Builder’s Breakfast Brew to a sweet Birthday Cake.
Its local speciality is Cambridge Classics, a store-exclusive blend of three black teas “evocative of the comforting scent of new books; a must for every lover of literature”.
This is the company’s 22nd store and creates six new jobs. A new store manager and trainee manager head up the team, supported by four ‘tea mixologist’ roles.
Bird & Blend was founded by Krisi Smith and Mike Turner, who met at university. They began by packing tea in their bedroom and attending markets, building Bird & Blend Tea Co from scratch.
MD Mike said: “Alongside the fast growth of the digital side of our business, we’re proudly continuing to invest in local high streets too. We see our stores as not just retail spaces, but as community hubs where customers can come to make connections with one another and our team, and enjoy interacting with our teas.
“For us, there will always be a place for magical in-person experiences and we’re delighted to be arriving in Cambridge.”
With its Matcha tea range, the Cambridge team will host live free demonstrations, offer a tea matching service, showcase innovative flavour combinations and run mixology masterclasses. They can create a range of more than 100 tea flavours by blending ingredients including herbs, flowers, fruits, caramel, chocolate and even cake sprinkles.
At the official opening party on 30 October, guests enjoyed Bird & Blend’s Signature Spiced Rum Chai or Strawberry Lemonade Drop on arrival. The first 50 customers received an exclusive Cambridge goody bag and, of course, lots of free tea.
