Located in Market Hill, the UK’s 18th Anthropologie store – the first launched in London in 2009 – opened its doors last Friday (April 16).

Anthropologie, which now operates more than 200 stores worldwide, specialises in clothing, accessories, gifts and home décor.

Laura Eglen, store manager, spoke to the Cambridge Independent in the afternoon on the day of the opening. “It’s been amazing, we’ve had queues all day,” she said. “We’ve been at maximum capacity since the minute we opened at half nine.

“Everyone’s just so excited – I don’t think one person’s left without buying anything. There’s a sea of Anthropologie bags going around Cambridge at the moment!”

Due to the pandemic, the team didn’t have an official opening or ribbon-cutting ceremony. “No, we didn’t sadly,” said Laura, “but as soon as we opened there were about 20 people in the queue to start with, and then it just continued.”
