Where is it?

The Pheasant is a traditional thatched pub nestled in the Cambridgeshire countryside at the heart of the beautiful village of Keyston, located 15 miles from Huntingdon and easily accessible off the A14 (postcode: PE28 0RE).

What will I find on the menu?

The pub offers honest, fresh and locally sourced food on modern British menu, complemented by an extensive yet eclectic wine list. It changes in line with the seasons, of course, and there are exciting specials. The menu spans both a la carte and pub classics, all carefully put together by head chef Thomas Whincup.

The February-March a la carte menu, for example, features starters including cured sea trout 'pastrami' with kohlrabi remoulade and red sorrel, and venison and black garlic terrine with port and pear chutney and sourdough toast, while mains include chorizo-crusted pollock fillet with butterbean cassoulet, wilted spinach and crispy cavolo nero, or slow-cooked lamb shank with crispy polenta, shallots and green beans and mint salsa.

You can also order pub classics like fish and chip, pie of the day, or sausages and mash.

What’s it like inside and out?

In the relaxed yet bustling bar you will find an open fire, comfy chairs and cosy corners.

Alternatively, the recently redecorated bright and airy restaurant has views over the country garden and surrounding fields, which sets the scene for a romantic dinner or lunch and is ever-popular.

The south-facing beer garden is the perfect spot to relax with a drink after a long walk in the countryside. Guests can ask for walking maps of the local area and four-legged friends are welcome to join their paw-rents in the bar area and garden.

And to drink?

The Pheasant offers a selection of real ales, cocktails and mocktails, as well as an extensive wine list and bar snacks.

Who runs it?

Stevie and the team took over the lease of the pub in early October 2023. Having worked at The Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon for more than 20 years, Stevie is now immensely proud to have taken the reins at The Pheasant.

The move is especially apt as his career in catering started right here at The Pheasant 25 years ago, when he was 17. He is putting the pub back on the map as a go-to foodie destination, and is committed to making the pub something the village of Keyston can be proud of.
