Win £500 helping hand with your 2025 Cambridge Half Marathon training

The Cambridge Independent is offering one lucky runner the chance to win a helping hand with their training for next year’s Cambridge Half Marathon – from the very latest in biomechanical assessment technology.

In a prize package worth a total of £500, Cutting Edge Podiatry, based in Barnwell Road, is offering a free Run3D gait analysis plus strengthening programme, together with a follow-up assessment in January to measure progress and help guide your training regime ahead of the race on Sunday, 9 March.

Run3D uses state-of-the-art infrared camera technology, combined with custom-built software, to create an exact computer model of an individual walking or running.

The cameras measure the position of small reflective markers on a person’s legs 200 times a second as they walk or run on a treadmill.

The personalised computer model is used to calculate joint motion in 3D – with an individual's joint angles compared with an extensive database of controls to identify unusual gait patterns in real time.

The root cause of any issues, such as knee pain or shin splints, can then be identified – and data-driven training can be precisely targeted.

“With this new infrared-based technology, we can accurately measure 3D joint angles in real time in the clinic – enabling us to quantify a patient's biomechanics, recommend evidence-based treatment, monitor the outcomes of the intervention and assess progress over time. The technology can instantly quantify the impact of different footwear, for example, gait retraining or surgical intervention.”

Founded in Cambridge by Suvanne Southgate in 2012, Cutting Edge Podiatry is a patient-centric podiatry clinic. Its new premises in Barnwell Road were officially opened by former home secretary and education secretary Charles Clarke on 20 July.

How to enter

The competition is open to those planning to run the Cambridge Half Marathon in 2025.

For your chance to win, go to cambridgeindependent.co.uk/entercomps and enter Cutting Edge Podiatry as the competition name.

Fill in the details and answer the following question for your chance to win the prize:

How many times a second do the Run3D cameras measure the small reflective markers on a person’s legs as they walk or run on a treadmill?

Entries close at 11pm on Sunday, 8 September.
