118 homes including affordable housing approved for Cambourne West

Plans for 118 new homes as part of the Cambourne West development have been unanimously approved by South Cambridgeshire district councillors.

Outline approval was granted in 2017 for 2,350 homes across the site.

The latest ‘reserved matters’ application was for a mixture of detached and semi-detached homes and flats, of two to three storeys for land on the eastern edge, adjacent to Lower Cambourne and south of the secondary school.

Of the 118 homes, 83 will be privately sold and 35 will be made available as affordable housing.

Council officers told the planning committee: “This scheme provides much-needed market and affordable housing in the area, and has resulted in a high-quality scheme which appropriately considers local and national policies.”

Cambourne Town Council had objected, raising concerns of “excessive rear parking courts and poor design of parking spaces”.

Susie Hartas, a representative of the developer Bovis Homes Cambourne West LLP, said there had since been two rounds of changes to address these concerns.

She added that “most if not all of the houses” would have solar panels, and explained that landscaped areas in the development would be managed by the town council once completed.

Cllr Dr Tumi Hawkins (Lib Dem, Caldecote) noted that a lot of work had gone into the plans, which councillors approved.
