Two fire crews from Cambridge were called to the scene at 3.19am on Wednesday (5 June). They wore breathing apparatus and used hose reels to extinguish the fire, before clearing the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan and returning to their station by 4.50am.

The ground-floor flat could be seen boarded up on Wednesday, and police were on site.

It is understood that two neighbouring flats were evacuated.
