45 pictures and top 50 runners from 2019 Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon
More than 8,100 runners completed the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday morning.
Cheered on by a good crowd in overcast and drizzly conditions, the runners made their way around a 13.1-mile off-road circuit.
Many supported Cancer Research UK, the headline charity partner, or Alzheimer’s Research, the national charity partner.
In first place was Michael Kallenberg, from Cardiff Amateur Athletic Club, in the very impressive time of 1:06:40, while a local runner came second - Chris Darling, of Cambridge & Coleridge Athletics Club in 1:08:54. They were followed by Alan Darby of Ely Runners, in 1:09:04.
The first junior runner home was Mac O'Malley, from Trafford Athletics Club, who came 12th in 1:11:23.
The first female home was Cambridge & Coleridge Athleteics Club runner Victoria Knight in 57th with 1:17:20, with Johanna O'Regan, of St Neots Riverside Runners, next in 69th with 1:18:33. Emma Hodson was the third woman home in 1:20:22, coming 115th overall.
Some 9,802 runners began the race.
Some tackled the course in fancy dress - one even ran as Chewbacca from Star Wars.
Event organisers OSB Events said: "Thank you to all of our 2019 runners. What a fantastic day at the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon. It was amazing to see thousands of runners taking part and raising money for good causes."
Pre-registration is already open for the 2020 half marathon.
Among the companies putting forward runners was Cambridge Consultants, which had 40 line up.
They raised money for three separate charities, all nominated by staff - The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre, the Alzheimer's Society, the UK's leading dementia support and research charity, for all those affected by any form of dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre, which offers support to women and girls who have experienced rape, childhood sexual abuse or any other form of sexual violence.
Every pound raised by the Cambridge Consultants runners will be matched by the company.
Starting and finishing on Midsummer Common, the single-lap route went through the historic city centre, passing the Round Church, King's College, Fitzwilliam Museum and heading along the Backs.
Don't miss our picture special in this week's Cambridge Independent, out on Wednesday.
