A day in the life of... Beaverbrooks’ branch manager Rebecca Jarvis
Ahead of the Cambridge BID and Cambridge Independent job fair on Tuesday, June 20, we’re speaking to people in a number of roles around the city.
This week, we spoke to Rebecca Jarvis, 39, branch manager at Beaverbrooks in the Grand Arcade.
Describe your role for us and what you do on a typical day.
No day is ever the same! But I always start my day with a coffee and a positive mindset. My goal is always to achieve a successful day at work for both our customers and my team.
When did you join?
Last year I celebrated my 10-year Beaverbrooks birthday as I started with the business in 2012. Last year I also opened our stunning new Cambridge store which has been open for six months now along with our TAG Heuer boutique.
How did you get to where you are now?
Through hard work, dedication and commitment. I have been extremely lucky to have a successful career at Beaverbrooks, but I’ve worked hard to get to where I am now. I started with the business 10 years ago in our Lakeside store in Essex. I also worked in our Bromley store and our flagship London store in Stratford. I have worked in various positions, yet this has been my biggest achievement yet at Beaverbrooks. I’m very grateful to have this wonderful opportunity to open my very own store in such a beautiful location.
What do you love about what you do?
I love celebrating and making special moments for our customers, which I find very rewarding. I have such a great team to work with and absolutely love each day at work as each day is different. I’m passionate about the product we sell and delivering a high level of customer service. I love working for such a fantastic company who take good care of us, it’s very rewarding.
Tell us about the toughest part of your job - and the most fun.
I’m not sure it can ever be tough selling diamonds? It’s really good fun in store everyday. We have a great culture and a fantastic team that make everyday enjoyable!
Do you remember how you felt on your first day?
Excited. Yet I remember being a little preoccupied as I was waiting for a important phone call that day. I was buying my first flat and anxiously waiting for a phone call from the solicitors to complete, which was challenging as we don’t allow mobile phones on the shop floor.
What advice would you give to someone looking to work in your industry?
Just be yourself and let your personality shine. We are a very diverse and inclusive company and it’s not essential that you have worked in the trade previously. Some of the most successful people in our company had never worked in the jewellery industry before they started with Beaverbrooks.
What’s great about working in Cambridge?
Everything!
What do you aim to do in the future to further your career?
I’m always open to new opportunities, yet for the foreseeable future, my focus is purely to make our Cambridge store a success.
