A truck that rolled into the River Cam has now been recovered.

Specialists were called in this morning and recovered the vehicle, which belonged to contractors, and a trailer attached to it.

River Manager Tom Larnach said that, after inspection, there appeared to have been no fuel spillage from the tank.

“Our immediate concern was people’s safety,” he said. “We dispatched our operations team immediately and made an assessment. We don’t have the equipment needed to get a truck out of the river so we had to call for specialists.

“We deployed a marker buoy to help navigation.”

He said a mini digger was on the trailer before it went in the river.

“It was lucky that didn’t go in too. Overall it was a successful recovery.”
