A10 to close at Foxton over Christmas period for level crossing work
The A10 will be closed at Foxton for seven days over the Christmas period to allow level crossing works to take place.
A signposted diversion for motorists travelling on the A10 between Royston and Cambridge will direct drivers onto the A505 between Royston and Duxford and the A1301 between Duxford and Trumpington.
The closure will allow engineers to install a new, heavy-duty road deck at Foxton level crossing and replace the pedestrian crossing desk.
During the closure from 10pm on Tuesday, 24 December until 6am on Wednesday, 1 January, Network Rail will run a fully-accessible minibus for pedestrians who want to cross the railway.
Teams will also be replacing the rails through the level crossing, as well as 615 metres of track and four sets of points in the area.
Network Rail says that intensive road and rail use means that the current level crossing and the nearby track is in poor condition, with train services having to be slowed down because of speed restrictions to keep everyone safe. The work over Christmas will minimise delays for rail passengers and keep drivers moving by reducing the need for road closures in future.
Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption, but we need extended access to the level crossing to get this vital job done, and the roads and railways are typically quieter in the period between Christmas and new year.
“Once installed, the new level crossing decks and track will serve motorists, pedestrians and rail passengers for many years to come.”
