Addenbrooke’s is celebrating is 250th anniversary with a special art commission.
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) chair Jane Ramsey unveiled the work by leading contemporary artist Anita Klein.
The painting, called ‘the Earring’, reflects Anita’s work inspired by family and relationships.
Jane Ramsey, CUH Chair said: “We wanted an image which summed up what care is about and how it feels. Anita’s style has perfectly captured the feelings of compassion, support, connection and nurture which have been and are at the heart of Addenbrooke’s. We are honoured that Anita painted this for us and delighted it has a home in Addenbrooke’s. I know it will give a lot of people a lot of pleasure as they pass it on what is the busiest corridor in the hospital.”
Anita is a regular feature at the Cambridge Contemporary Art Gallery and has a long-standing relationship with Cambridge – one of her first gallery shows was here in the 1980s.
Roland Sinker, CUH CEO said: “This image is doubly special; it is a permanent reminder of a milestone anniversary for the hospital, and it will also make this busy and sometimes daunting environment more welcoming not only for patients and visitors but for our staff too. “Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s support of our arts programme has allowed us to achieve this, and we are very grateful.”
Anita has created a hand-printed linocut in nine colours based on sketches for the painting. Individual prints from the limited edition (50 numbered prints and 10 artist’s proofs) are for sale through Addenbrooke’s to raise funds for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT).
