Addenbrooke’s security staff set to skydive for charitable trust

Ten members of the CUH security team at Addenbrooke’s are to do a tandem skydive to raise funds for Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT), to support children between the ages of 7 and 18 who have mental health issues.

Martyn Grass, who has worked at the hospital for five years, has organised the jump for the cause, which is very close to his heart. It is set to take place on 13 May at Beccles Airfield, near Norwich.

He said: “We deal a lot with paediatric mental health in the hospital. Children and young adults are coming in and there seems to be a bit of a gap in the support that teenagers are getting.”

Martyn said the idea for the skydive came as he and a colleague, Mark, stood outside the emergency department the morning after a night in which they had been assisting in paediatrics.

He recalled: “I said ‘Mark, we need to do something to help the department’.”

Initially it was just going to be just Martyn and Mark braving the jump, but they then managed to get a team of 10 together.
