Addenbrooke’s Hospital staff to raise funds for new children’s ambulance service at Chariots of Fire
Addenbrooke’s staff are aiming to raise funds for a new children’s emergency ambulance service with three teams running in the annual Chariots of Fire event.
The race on September 22 will feature 380 teams of six, running around a 1.7-mile course, including through two Cambridge colleges.
All the money raised will go to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust to fund a new emergency children’s ambulance service, allowing critically ill children from across the East of England to reach the Cambridge hospital more quickly.
Three teams from PICU at Addenbrooke’s have signed up to take part and have organised a summer holiday raffle to raise money.
Clare King, paediatric intensive care unit lead, said: “It is so important to fund the emergency children’s ambulance service because it is a means for children requiring high dependency or intensive care from around the region to get to the appropriate hospitals in an expedient way with all the right staff and equipment necessary on board to give the best optimal care needed.”
Race director Charles Hewitson, from Hewitsons Charitable Trust, which organises the event, said: “I am delighted that each year the local community continues to show their support for Chariots by taking part and raising sponsorship and I’m sure this year will be no exception.”
