Aggressive beggar who spat on Cambridge woman is jailed

An aggressive beggar who spat on a Cambridge resident has been jailed.

Jason Allum, 38, of Edgecombe, Cambridge, was handed an indefinite Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) in April 2023 requiring him “not to act in an anti-social or disorderly manner, that causes or is likely to cause nuisance, disruption or annoyance to any person in Cambridge” and not to enter an exclusion zone within the city.

But between 12 July and 2 August, Allum breached the conditions of his CBO 14 times, CCTV evidence showed.

In an unprovoked attack on 27 July, Allum spat on a woman, who was unknown to him, in Petty Cutty.

Allum was sentenced to two years and one month in prison at Cambridge Crown Court last Thursday (5 December) after pleading guilty to 14 breaches of a CBO and common assault. His CBO remains in place.

PC Laura O’Flynn, who investigated, said: “Allum has been supported extensively by the Cambridge neighbourhood policing team, probation, housing services, Mental Health services, drug and alcohol services and teams which support vulnerable adults.

“The CBO was applied for to manage Allum’s behaviour and protect the public of Cambridge from his relentless, aggressive begging, which has been known to result in criminal damage and physical assaults.

“However, despite extensive work to assist and support him, Allum has continued to breach the order, and this sentence today reflects the impact his behaviour is having within our community.

“Upon his release, we will continue as we have in the past, to work with partner agencies to offer further support.”
