Amazon donates £1,000 to to Cambridge charity




A local charity and social enterprise in Cambridge has received a £1,000 donation from online shopping giants Amazon.

Cambridge Online, which takes on the challenge of digital skills for all, welcomed the donation as part of the “Amazon in the Community” programme, which supports communities in and around where it operates in the UK.

To mark the donation, the Amazon team in Cambridge attended one of the charity’s digital skills sessions with its learners supported by charity volunteers and had the opportunity to learn more about the charity’s services.

Cambridge Online helps people from the Cambridgeshire area to get online by teaching digital skills and providing a range of courses to help people make the most of being online.

Andrew Entecott, CEO at Cambridge Online added: “We’re very grateful to receive this donation from Amazon’s Cambridge Development Centre. It is our mission to help make a digital world simple, friendly and fun for all. It is donations like this that help promote this mission and ensures we can continue to offer our digital services to everyone in the community.”

The charity provides training on personal computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones and has a wide range of accessible hardware and software for people to try. With generous support from Cambridge city councill and personal donors, many of its services are provided free of charge or at low cost.

We are proud to support Cambridge Online as they continue to empower people in our community to learn about the internet and benefit from technology.”

Amazon’s development centre houses R&D teams that bring new innovation to millions of its customers around the globe, including: Amazon Devices, Amazon Alexa (the brain that powers devices such as Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show); AWS; Prime Air (a future delivery system to safely get packages to customers in 30 minutes or less using drones) and core machine learning and retail systems, improving the shopping experience for Amazon customers.
