Appeal for Brexit documents to aid future researchers

Any printed campaign materials wanted.

A collection of Brexit documents is being collected at Cambridge University Library.

Curators of the collection think the documents will be a valuable resource for future researchers.

The special collection is being put together with hopes of repeating the success of the War Reserve Collection, cited by the University as an unrivalled source for researchers into World War I.

This collection was only put together after an advert was placed in the Cambridge Magazine by Francis Jenkinson in 1915. It read: ‘Such flying pieces as those which are dropped from aeroplanes or posted on hoardings would be particularly welcome”.

Similarly, the Brexit collection aims to gather campaign materials that will be of particular interest to people in 100 years.

The appeal page states: “This may well turn out to be the last political campaign for which extensive material on paper is produced, and as a first step we are appealing for leaflets and other printed campaign material issued by both sides to be donated to the University Library to be kept as a documentary record for future researchers.”

Anyone with leaflets or similar campaign materials is urged to contact William Hale at the University Library’s Rare Books Department with their donation.
