Arbury Carnival to bring colour and music to Cambridge
Arbury Carnival will bring a sea of colour to the city on Saturday (June 9) with its annual celebration and procession.
The procession marks the start of the carnival, which this year is based around the theme of ‘Blue Planet’.
The procession starts at Armitage Way at midday and finishes in front of the carnival arena on Campkin Road around 12.30pm.
Among the groups taking part in this year’s parade are Fruity Clave Samba Band, Buckleton Belly Dance School, 1st Cambridge Scout Group, local schools and churches.
Following the procession Cambridge mayor Cllr Nigel Gawthrope will officially open the carnival from its arena stage.
He said: said: “The carnival is always a great celebration of community life and an occasion when everyone comes together.
“It is a great honour to be opening this year’s carnival, and I look forward to seeing people from the local area and from across the city for a day of fun and entertainment.” Within the carnival arena there will be fairground rides, live entertainment, a children’s area, more than 90 product and food stalls, plus evening entertainment from a local group with the Arbury Carnival Pop in the Park.
The carnival is supported by Kettle’s Yard gallery, who work with local schools on art projects.
