Art gallery created by Monkfield Park Primary School pupils in Great Cambourne

Pupils at Monkfield Park Primary School in Great Cambourne put together their own art gallery, which they opened up for families to visit.

The whole school - from Reception to Year 6 - was involved in transforming the school hall into the gallery with hundreds of pieces of artwork, created using a range of techniques. The work was then sold to parents and visitors, raising money for the library.

Headteacher Annie Howell said: “We have been holding our annual art gallery for a number of years not only to celebrate the wealth of talent we have at Monkfield Park but also to build self-esteem by giving every child the opportunity to shine. It is an event that the whole school is exceptionally proud of and looks forward to.

“This year our focus was on printing with every child from Reception to Year 6 creating a print using a range of techniques and skills.

“From simple printing using shapes and natural materials in Year 2 to creating unique plasticine stamps in Year 3, screen printing in Year 5 and linocuts in Year 6, the children have showcased a range of skills which reflect the high-quality art lessons our staff deliver.”
