Beautifully presented house in Comberton, South Cambridgeshire

This impressive end of terrace family home – on the market with Pocock & Shaw – provides five well-proportioned first-floor bedrooms

On the ground floor is a south-facing sitting room with wood-burner, a conservatory-style dining room and a further family room with an en-suite shower room creating a potential annexe.

The owners, Mr and Mrs Grebe, purchased the house in November 2016, having moved back to the area from Bishop’s Stortford. The couple had it fully redone and updated before moving in in March 2017.

Mr Grebe, an academic, told the Cambridge Independent: “It used to be a three-bedroom house and the previous owners put in an extension [finished at the beginning of 2016], which was very nicely done, but the old part needed some work.

“We completely rewired it with new electrics and refurbished the entire old house – kitchen, bathrooms, living room... We put in wooden floors in all the rooms of the old house – there was carpet beforehand – and redecorated the entire place.”

The luxury kitchen, with its floor-to-ceiling storage, walk-in pantry, granite surfaces, integrated appliances and wine cooler, is beautiful. The conservatory is another particular standout feature, one that the occupants who had it before the previous owners were responsible for.

“We also decorated the conservatory,” explained Mr Grebe. “The wooden floor was in but we had it sanded and repainted. We really liked the wooden floor – it was one of the reasons why we bought the property in the first place.

“We also put spotlights in and we have a speaker system that connects the kitchen and the living room. That’s a nice feature.”

The house was built in the 1960s.Said Mr Grebe: “We repainted it with neutral grey shades – varieties of grey – and it’s a very light and calming surrounding.”

The Grebes plan to stay in the Cambridge area but are moving for family reasons. The owner says his favourite room in the house is the sitting room.

“We have a really good-quality log-burner and it’s absolutely lovely,” he observed. “The living room is connected to the kitchen with the two French doors we’ve put in. That then leads into the conservatory.”

Mr Grebe is also fond of the surrounding area. “It’s a very quiet neighbourhood, very child-friendly,” he said. “You have the park just around the corner, you have the school next door, and it’s just a short walk from Comberton Village College.

“The neighbours are friendly and Comberton is a great village.”
