Body found in search for missing teenager at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton
A body has been found in the search for a missing 16-year-old at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton.
Officers were called at 5.26pm on Monday (12 August) by the ambulance service, who had reported concerns for a teenage boy in the water. Emergency services and specialist teams attended.
Police confirmed at around 4pm today (Tuesday) that a body had been found and that it is believed to be that of the missing boy.
A Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “Our officers searching for a teenage boy who got into difficulty at a lake near Cambridge have found a body.
“We were called at 5.26pm yesterday evening (Monday) by the ambulance service reporting concerns for a teenage boy in the water at Burnside Lakes in Cherry Hinton, just outside of Cambridge.
“It is believed the boy, who is 16 and from the Essex area, was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty.
“Search teams recovered a body from the lake at about 1pm this afternoon (Tuesday).
“While formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of the missing boy and his family have been notified.”
