Cows about Cambridge sculpture spotted on a jaunt around the city

Breaking moos! One of the first sculptures to be painted for next year’s charity art trail Cows about Cambridge has been taking a tour of the River Cam and meeting real-life cows on the city’s commons.

As well as checking out potential trail locations, she’s raising awareness of the initiative which is currently looking for businesses to support its plans.

May-Belle, painted by artist Dario Fisher, will feature on Cows about Cambridge in spring 2020. More than 50 Cow sculptures, each one individually painted by an artist and sponsored by a business, form a free, family-friendly trail of discovery for local people to explore and enjoy. At the end of the event many of the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for local children’s charity Break.

Peter Marron, Cows about Cambridge Project Manager, said: “It was an ‘amoosing’ day for the team and May-Belle. She delighted passers-by with her stunning design and the real cows seemed to take a shine to her too! I encourage businesses to get in touch now to take advantage of the many benefits sponsoring a sculpture brings, from fun employee engagement and profile-raising opportunities, to inclusion on the interactive mobile app.”

The sculptures are inspired by the rare Red Poll cattle breed, which in the warmer months are found grazing on Midsummer Common. Next year’s 10-week sculpture trail delivered by Wild in Art in partnership with Break and Cambridge Business Improvement District (BID) is expected to create a feel-good factor for the region, while generating more than £8 million of economic value, promoting wellbeing and an active lifestyle, and facilitating discussions on environmental issues.

Cows about Cambridge will come with an interactive mobile app. It will guide sculpture seekers around the trail and offer retail discounts, exclusive content, and money-off vouchers from sponsors and partners.
