Joe Ross, 33, of Hawkins Road, Cambridge, broke into both Sam Ping Supermarket and Indian Mini Market in Cherry Hinton Road at about 3.30am on May 13. He left with a few coins from the mini market.

Ross set off an alarm at a building site in Topper Street on September 24 and took a bag containing machinery worth £2,500. He also took laundry products worth £100 from the Co-Op in Perne Road on September 13.

He was caught on CCTV in all of the incidents and identified by police.

Ross was sentenced to 13 months in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Friday (December 8) after previously pleading guilty to one theft and three counts of burglary.

PC Craig Gallacher said: “These burglaries not only affect the businesses but also the local community. I hope this sentence is a firm reminder to anyone minded to commit crimes such as this that they are taken seriously by police and the courts.”
