Burglar who crept into Cambridge homes at night while occupants slept is jailed for four years
A burglar who crept into homes in Cambridge in the middle of the night has been jailed.
Residents in one home who discovered their back door open on May 9, 2021, checked their CCTV and found a man had been inside in the early hours of the morning and taken a woman’s coat.
Occupants of another home in Blackberry Way used their CCTV to discover a man had taken a bicycle from their garden in the middle of the night on August 1, 2021.
And residents in Water Lane and Longworth Avenue reported to police on August 12, 2021 that their homes had been broken into as they slept, with items including bags, trainers, wallets, a bicycle and headphones stolen.
Their bank cards were used the same day at a cashpoint, garage and a shop in the city.
Using CCTV, detectives identified Nathan Young, of Green End Road, Cambridge, as the culprit and arrested him, finding a host of stolen property as his home.
The 29-year-old pleaded guilty at Peterborough Crown Court on January 12 to burglary, two counts of handling stolen goods, three counts of fraud, bike theft and possession of cannabis. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
Det Con Lisa Bacon said: “Young is a prolific burglar with three previous convictions for burglary. He was on licence from his last conviction in 2018 when he committed these latest offences.
“He’s clearly demonstrated that he continues to have complete disregard for the law and will now endure an extended period of time in prison.”
