Cambourne solidarity group calls for Gaza ceasefire
A vigil for Gaza was well attended in Cambourne last Friday (16 February).
A group came together in the square at the centre of Great Cambourne calling for a ceasefire.
It comprised members and supporters of the National Education Union (NEU) in Cambridgeshire, Cambridge Stop the War Coalition and Cambridge Palestine Solidarity Campaign, and Cambourne residents.
An NEU member told the Cambridge Independent the group formed following a vigil on the Workplace Day of Action the previous week.
“We had about 40 people here last week and decided to get together to make a Cambourne solidarity group of our own,” she said.
“The NEU, Cambridge Stop the War and Cambridge Palestine Solidarity Campaign have joined together with the Cambourne community and we hope to have vigils every couple of weeks.”
Dolls were laid out on a blanket on the pavement to reflect the loss of children’s lives in the enclave.
Parents and children were among those at the vigil calling for an end to hostilities in Gaza, where Israel is waging war on Hamas, in retaliation for a deadly attack by Hamas gunmen in Israel on October 7.
