Cambourne Village College students suffer sickness after school trip

A group of students at Cambourne Village College suffered sickness and diarrhoea during and following a trip away.

The school said it was aware of 15 students who had been affected by what it believed was a stomach bug after the four-day trip at Beaumanor Hall near the town of Loughborough in Leicestershire, where they took part in activities including canoeing and high ropes.

The Cambridge Independent is aware that at least one pupil was taken to hospital after returning due to the severity of the symptoms.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council, which owns and runs Beaumanor Hall, said: “We’re sorry to hear that a small number of students at Cambourne Village College have been unwell recently and we hope they have made a speedy recovery.

“We want to make it clear, however, there’s nothing to suggest the illness experienced is linked to the college’s recent visit to Beaumanor Hall, either in terms of the catering or activity arrangements undertaken.”
