Cambridge choristers could have number one Xmas single with prog rock band

Jesus College choristers helping Big Big Train to close in on number one in physical chart sales

Choristers from a Cambridge college have helped a progressive rock band take the official UK charts by storm.

Jesus College choristers are featured as guest singers on the seasonal single Merry Christmas by award-winning band Big Big Train.

The single is potentially heading for the Christmas number one position as the song has already gone straight into the official physical singles chart at number two.

Richard Pinel, director of music at Jesus College, said: “Working with a prog rock band was a new departure for our choristers, and the process was lots of fun.

“Although we spend most of our time with traditional choral music, many of the musical skills that our choristers develop are transferable to other genres of music.

“The boys all think that they are rock stars now!”

The seven-inch single, which was released on December 8, comes in snow-white vinyl with a gatefold cover.
