Cambridge Handball Club lost out in triple header to London Olympia
Men’s second team are the sole winners of three
London Olympia claimed the bragging rights in a triple header against Cambridge Handball Club at Barking Sporthouse.
In the Women’s Premier Handball League, Cambridge got off to a bad start and found themselves trailing 10-2 early in the game.
They rallied to make a strong finish to the half, and were within four goals at half time, trailing 11-7.
But Olympia stayed strong in the second half and continued to extend their lead, earning a 22-15 victory as Grété Morkvénaité top-scored for Cambridge with four goals.
In the Men’s Premier Handball League, it was a similar tale as Cambridge also got off to a slow start against a highly-motivated and aggressive Olympia team.
Cambridge trailed 20-13 at the break, and the second half became a frantic affair with multiple two-minute suspensions on both sides and two dismissals for Olympia.
And although Cambridge had the better of the second half, they had left themselves with too much to do as they were beaten 32-28, with Ivan Duvancic top-scoring with seven goals.
There was one win for Cambridge though, from the men’s second team in the South East Regional League.
After an even first half with London Olympia, the score was 12-12 at the break.
The opening of the second half was where Cambridge took control of the match, and with an impressive defensive performance they took a seven-goal lead within eight minutes.
Although the remainder of the game was more even, Cambridge did not let Olympia back into it as they secured a 33-25 victory.
Cambridge men’s team’s next match is away to Warrington Wolves on Saturday, December 9, while the second team are away to Oxford University on the same day.
And the women’s team are due to be away to London Angels on Sunday, December 10.
