FFFF, a ‘by invitation-only’ event, gathers the top 250 magicians from around the world. Each year, new invitees perform in front of their peers, striving to earn their bachelor’s, master’s, and finally their honorary doctorate in magic.

For Matthew, this began in 2018 and culminated this year with a performance that secured him the doctorate and a standing ovation.

Matthew said: “The build-up to my five-minute performance was an intense regimen of practice and rehearsal for weeks.

“Receiving a standing ovation from that room of esteemed magicians was a huge moment for me and is the highlight of my career so far.”

Matthew, who has loved magic since he was six, is the only person to have won The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year over three consecutive years.

He has also been invited to Australia to present a series workshops with colleague Lee Hathaway, vice president of The Magic Circle.
