He grabbed her by the hair, pulled her out of bed to the hallway and repeatedly punched her to the face.

When she said she would call the police he replied: “Well, if you’re going to do that I might as well do something proper.”

He pinned her to the floor, spat in her mouth and strangled her. She escaped by kicking him in the genitals and running from the house.

Wayne was arrested and found to have previously been arrested in connection with another crime in April 2019.

On that occasion, Wayne and Matthew Brown, 30, went to a house in Birdwood Road, Cambridge, after a night of drinking, looking to take revenge on a man they claimed had committed a crime against their friend.

They punched, kicked and strangled him until he could no longer stand up. The victim was treated at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for significant injuries to his head and eyes.

Wayne and Brown, of Greystoke Road, Cambridge, later both pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm.

Wayne also admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with the attack on his partner.

Wayne was jailed for two years and eight months while Brown was jailed for two years and four months at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday, November 19.

Det Con Matt Smith said: “These men are violent and I am pleased they are now behind bars and no longer a danger to society.

“Wayne was abusive and vicious to his partner, and when he was with Brown this became even worse.

“I hope the conclusion of the court process will provide some comfort for the victims as they recover from their ordeals.

“We’re working hard to help survivors of domestic abuse and bring perpetrators before the courts. I would urge anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help.

“I would also implore friends and family who are concerned a loved one might be in an abusive relationship to speak to them about it and encourage them to get the help they need. There are some amazing charities out there offering help if they do not want to approach the police in the first instance.”

Victims of domestic abuse are urged to contact police on 101 or call the National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247. For more advice and support on domestic abuse, visit Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s website.
