Cambridge named most polite city in the UK




A new study by language learning platform Preply has named Cambridge the most polite city in the UK.

The ‘UK Polite Cities Index’ explores which areas of the UK are the most welcoming and friendly, examining various factors such as TripAdvisor reviews containing keywords relating to politeness, as well as each city’s safety index and cleanliness score.

Cambridge leads the way as the UK’s politest city, scoring 26/30 in the report.

After analysing TripAdvisor reviews containing words such as ‘polite’, ‘friendly’, 'fantastic', 'would come again', and 'outstanding' for various attractions in the city, Cambridge achieved a polite score of 6/10 in the study as 30 per cent of reviews contained these keywords.

The city boasts a safety index of 71.77 and a cleanliness score of 73.33, both the highest in the report.

Newcastle was named the UK’s second most polite city, with an overall score of 19.9/30.
