Cambridge Photography Week to culminate in free show with deals, talks and major brands

Cambridge Photography Week will culminate in a major free show offering inspiration, advice and gear.

Organised by Campkins Cameras – a fixture in the city for more than 70 years – this week’s events have included photo talks, workshops, on-demand tutorials and equipment deals.

The Cambridge & Autumn Photography Show will bring the week to a close at the Hilton hotel in Downing Street, from 9.30am-4pm on Saturday (October 7), where brands such as Olympus, Sony, Canon, Sigma and Tamron will be represented and showcasing their latest gear.

A host of talks are lined up for the day, including Iain Webb, of the Wildlife Trust, discussing the best places to photograph wildlife in South Cambridgeshire, Ilian Iliev discussing food photography and wedding photographers Lina and Tom talking about how to capture moments that leave a legacy. Sport photography, taking family photos and using film will also be among the topics for expert speakers.

Campkins owner Owen Howell said: “We’ve been busy gathering more than 20 local photographers and brand ambassadors for talks, workshops and interviews during Cambridge Photography Week. And Saturday will be packed with talks, workshops and the chance to meet brands and make the most of fantastic deals. We love bringing photographers together in celebrating their love for photography, and we can’t wait to see everyone there!”

Campkins first launched the show in 2017 but, after three iterations, had to shut it down during the pandemic. Then Owen teamed up with Chris Le’cand-Harwood, a close school friend with a marketing business, Content Marketing Pod, and Sara Rawlinson Photography to broaden it into a wider week-long event with talks and Cambridge Photography Week was born.

Chris said: “While times are tough for businesses, it’s this kind of collaboration and focus that’s a great antidote to the challenges facing independent businesses in Cambridge.”

One-time deals have been on offer during the course of the week and OM Systems was in the Campkins shop on King’s Parade on Friday, while Saturday’s show will offer hands-on experience with the latest cameras, lenses and accessories.
