Cambridge restaurants raise £12k for earthquake victims





Cambridgeshire restaurants and takeaways have raised more than £12,000 for victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquake.

BCA (Bangladesh Caterers Association) Cambridgeshire member establishments came together after an emergency meeting of members was called at Zara restaurant in Great Shelford following the devastating earthquake on February 6, which is thought to have claimed more than 55,000 lives.

All those at the meeting agreed to hold a fundraising night at their eateries on February 27 and 28, donating half their takings. BCA Cambridgeshire collected a total of £12,066.37.

Abdul Hye, president of BCA Cambridgeshire and co-owner of Pipasha restaurant in Cambridge, said: “Thank you to everyone that participated and all the customers who especially visited participating restaurants and takeaways. Your support will make a difference.”

Eighteen venues took part: Taj Tandoori, Pipasha, Sylhet, Zara, Kaz’s, Montaz, Cam Spice, Bar Hill Spice, Rajbelash, Gandhi, Maharaja, Tamarind, Indian Ocean, Shilpa, Classic Spice, Meghna, The Kala Sheep and The Grill Plug.
