Cambridge Shopmobility celebrates extended opening hours
Cambridge City Council’s Shopmobility service has extended its hours.
The service offers free daily hire of a range of manual and electric wheelchairs and mobility scooters to people with limited mobility, enabling them to access the city centre and shop independently.
Scooters and wheelchairs can be hired from the Shopmobility offices at level one in the Grand Arcade multi-storey car park and level four at the Grafton East multi-storey car park.
The new operating hours include an additional 90 minutes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and an extra two hours on Wednesday and Saturday as these are peak shopping days. Sunday times remain the same.
The service is now available at the following times:
- Monday: 9.30am to 6.30pm
- Tuesday: 9.30am to 6.30pm
- Wednesday: 9.30am to 7pm
- Thursday: 9.30am to 6.30pm
- Friday: 9.30am to 6.30pm
- Saturday: 9.30am to 7pm
- Sunday: 11am to 4pm
Previously, the operating hours were 10am to 5pm daily, apart from Sunday when the times were 11am to 4pm.
Registered Shopmobility customers who drive into either the Grand Arcade or Grafton East car parks will get their first three hours of parking free.
Any Shopmobility customers using the Dial-a-Ride service can be met at the designated meet points of Market Square or Grafton East car park by a council officer to provide them with their scooter or wheelchair. This service does need to be booked in advance.
Cllr Nicky Massey, executive councillor for transport and community safety, said: “I am pleased that we are now able to provide longer operating hours for our Shopmobility service.
“We know that people with mobility problems value the service and we hope that even more people who could benefit from it will register in the coming months.”
