Cambridge Travelodge guest who smashed car through reception and smeared faeces across floor is jailed for three years
A man who caused chaos and endangered lives at a Travelodge hotel in Cambridge when he drove his car through the reception has been jailed for three years.
After checking into the hotel on Cambridge Leisure Park in 2019, Nathan Anderson, 33, of East Street, Derby, began wreaking havoc by deliberately setting off the fire alarm, forcing the evacuation of the hotel, before smearing faeces across the floor and door of the corridor near his room.
Then in the early hours, he drove his car straight through the reception area of the Travelodge Cambridge Central Hotel, smashing its doors and causing serious damage.
Fortunately, no-one was injured. Guests reported the sound of an almighty crash at about 5.50am on September 1. Fire crews were called and checked there was no structural damage.
Anderson had fled before emergency services arrived but CCTV footage had captured the events and he was later arrested.
He was found guilty at trial of damaging property recklessly endangering life and was sentenced to three years in prison at Huntingdon Law Courts on Monday (September 5).
PC Ryan Parker, who investigated, said: “Anderson behaved recklessly and dangerously that night and he’s lucky nobody was seriously hurt.
“He caused extensive damage to the hotel and distress to the staff on duty and those who had to clear up his mess.
“I am glad justice has been done and Anderson will be spending time behind bars for his actions.”
