The Ukrainian School teachers made traditional dishes such as borscht and varenyky (dumplings), while the Cambridge Chinese Academy headed by Mrs Wang organised Chinese favourites including roast duck, beef in black bean sauce, spring rolls and a variety of other popular dishes.

The Cambridge Chinese School arranged a Tai Ki demonstration, and Ukrainian children sang (Jasmine flower) and Xinnianhao (Happy Chinese New Year).

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the city council, which provided funding.

The Chinese visiting scholars group CSIA and Exue International also helped promote the event. The Chinese children who attended received gifts and gingerbread cookies made by Ukrainian patisserie chef Mrs Maryna.

Organiser Rend Platings said: “We are incredibly grateful to Cambridge’s local Chinese community for coming to the Ukrainian school and sharing this very special day with us. Ukrainian families told us they really enjoyed the stunning performances, delicious food and opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture.
