Cambridgeshire police shocked by scale of drugs factory in Hardwick - 10 pictures
Police have arrested two people after uncovering a massive drugs factory in a South Cambridgeshire village that left them stunned.
Officers said the cannabis farm at a Hardwick house was spread over several floors. The 580 cannabis plants found had a street value of about £487,000.
UK Power Networks was called in to dig up the driveway at the home due to the scale of the operation, which will have used a lot of electricity to grow the plants.
Officers from Cambourne and St Neots neighbourhood policing team acted on intelligence from the police’s drugs team to locate the cannabis factory on Saturday (May 16).
Crime scene investigators then arrived to collect forensic evidence at the site.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s rural crime action team (RCAT) were also involved in the raid.
South Cambs police tweeted that the factory had the “wow factor” - and said the “Hardwick community will be reassured”.
After specialist teams gathered the evidence they needed, officers began to dismantle the factory.
One couple put boxes of Roses chocolates on police cars.
“So very nice and quite touching,” tweeted South Cambs police.
The two people arrested are being held in custody.
It follows a raid on a cannabis factory in Fen Road, Cambridge, last week.
